The club encourages its members to share their work through the submission of entries to our internal Print and Projected Image (Digital and Slide) competitions held throughout the year. The points awarded by independent invited judges are accumulated, and trophies are awarded to the winning authors at our prize-giving and end of year social evening in July. Additionally, members are invited to submit entries for inter-club events, and regional competitions. Final selection of a Photocraft entry is made through the democratic vote of all members present on the selection evening(s) as and when they are held. Please see Programme for further details. |

| Internal Competition Rules | ||
| 1 | Entries must be the work of the club member who must own the copyright. * (See footnote). | |
| 2 | Members may submit up to 3 entries in any internal club competition, unless otherwise stated in the programme. Rules for one-off competitions will be explained in the club programme and by committee members on club evenings. | |
| 3 | In the Open Print, Monochrome and Projected Image competitions numbered in the programme, only the two highest scores from a member's entries from each competition will count towards the yearly placings and trophy awards. | |
| 4 | In Open Print competitions, both colour and monochrome entries are accepted. Entries should be submitted to the club not later than 7.50 pm on the evening of the competition. | |
| 5 | In the Monochrome Print competitions, images must be of one colour only. Wet-process black and white prints may be toned chemically, although this shall be limited to single process. Submit entries as for Open Print competitions (See paragraphs 3 and 4 above). | |
| 6 | For Projected Image competitions, slides should be handed into the club not later than 7.50 p.m. on the evening of the competition, or whenever possible, one week before the competition. Slide mounts shall be the standard 2 x 2 inch size only. | |
| 7 | Digital images files for the Projected Image competitions should not exceed 1024 by 768 pixels. The files should be in JPEG format and in sRGB colour space. A leaflet giving detailed advice on preparing, numbering and titling images, and how to submit them is available on request. | |
| 8 | Digital images will be installed on the DiCentra program in advance. The image files may be sent by email in the correct format to the nominated club member(s) up to one week before the club meeting - and not later than 36 hours before the competition, at the very latest. If access to email is not available, the prepared images may be submitted the week before the competition on memory card, memory stick or CD/DVD disk. It is regretted that the constraints imposed by the compilation of images into DiCentra means that digital entries cannot be accepted on the evening of competitions or club selections. | |
| 9 | In the Digital Manipulation Competition, an image file will be supplied by Photocraft for you to apply your creativity to. Provided that the original image remains a significant and recognisable basis of your composition, all forms of interpretation and re-working, (including the addition or removal of picture elements) are both allowable and encouraged. The judge will choose one outright winner, and may commend runners-up. | |
| 10 | Entries will be marked by the judge on a scale of 1 to 10. Where more than one entry is marked 10, the judge, at his discretion, may award to one of them a plus mark, thus 10+ to indicate the evening's winner. The number of plus marks is only taken into account if there is a tie at the end of the season. | |
| 11 | The aim of internal competitions is to encourage new work. Therefore, entries gaining 7½ points or more may not be submitted in internal competitions more than once. Similarly, entries from the same member, differing only slightly from a previous one that has scored 7½ points or more may not be submitted, irrespective of form (i.e. colour or monochrome prints, slides or digital images). However, entries gaining 7 points or less may be submitted on one other occasion in the same or another form. | |
| 12 | If a member wishing to submit print or slide entries is unable to attend a competition evening, another club member may submit the entries on their behalf. | |
| 13 | In all competitions, the decision of the judge is final. | |
| 14 | Whilst the organisers will exercise reasonable care of entries, responsibility will not be accepted for any loss or damage. | |
| 15 | It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to ensure that entries do not breach any legal requirements. | |
| Guidelines for the Preparation & Submission of Prints & Slides | ||
| 1 |
Prints may be processed by the author or by a third party. All
prints should be mounted by the entrant, and
clearly marked on the back with the image title (if any), the member's
name and the date of the competition. It is a normal stipulation in external competitions that the maximum size of mounted prints should not exceed 50 x 40 cm (20 x 16 inches). However, to enable members to present their work to the club at a larger size, if they wish, it is suggested that the maximum mounted print size should be limited to 60 x 50 cm (24 x 20 inches). This is the maximum practical size for display on the easel, for judging under even lighting conditions. |
|
| 2 |
Slides may be processed by the author or by a third party. Commercially
processed slides are permitted. All slides shall be in standard 2 x 2 inch
mounts, and correctly spotted for projection. Each slide shall be marked
with the name of the author, and the title (subject) -if any, as indicated. |
